Engine cooling is key from the point of view of its durability. Heat is collected from the inside of the engine not only by means of the coolant circulating in the channels carved in the engine block or head but also by the engine oil. This is why high-performance engines may also require oil cooling, and, consequently, yet another cooler.
It should be pointed out though that oil coolers collect heat not only from the lubricant circulating inside the engine but also from the gearbox. Sometimes they constitute a separate element, but sometimes (in the case of automatic transmission) the oil is cooled by the radiator located right behind the grill.
