The heat is collected from the radiator by means of air, which, however, may prove insufficient during the intensive operation of the engine. Therefore, the radiator is supported by a fan, which forms a stronger rush of air to flow through the radiator and magnifies the amount of heat collected from it.
The fan may operate in one of two ways. It may be powered by an electric motor or by the engine’s crankshaft. In the latter case, the two elements are coupled together by means of the fan clutch, which, based on the information about the engine temperature, activates or deactivates the torque generated by the shaft.
The engine radiator fan housing is frequently marginalized, although it is important for the proper operation of the fan. It usually comes in the form of a plastic cover, whose task is to direct the flow of air through the radiator.
