Expansion tanks
Thermotec expansion tanks
Expansion tanks are associated mainly with the possibility of refilling the coolant or the cooling system following replacement. This is the main role of the expansion tank. However, it is also responsible for other tasks. It regulates the amount of the coolant and the pressure in the cooler and the cooling system.
During engine operation, the temperature of the coolant changes, which results in changes in its volume and, consequently, in the cooling system pressure. When the fluid is warmed up and its volume increases, the excess fluid just goes into the expansion tank. This prevents the system from being damaged. As the coolant temperature decreases, the negative pressure inside the expansion tank automatically collects the missing coolant into the system.
The expansion tank cap has an additional function
Another part of the coolant expansion tank is the cap. It closes the system and guarantees that no ambient water gets into the coolant. It is also equipped with a pressure valve. Its failure may lead to an uncontrolled pressure increase in the system, including an increase in the engine temperature. If this is the case, it is worth checking the condition of the cap and the operation of the valves installed in it.
Thermotec expansion tanks. High quality at a reasonable price
When designing expansion tanks, we focus not only on their capacity or shape. The quality of the materials they are made from is equally important. The expansion tank must be able to withstand the high pressure and temperature of the coolant for many years. From our point of view, this means strenuous quality testing, both at the stage of designing and inspecting the spare parts produced in our plants, which meet the stringent European ISO standards.
